
Trump watch: A second CDC expert resigns over loss of confidence in vaccine policy
Another expert from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has resigned in protest at Robert F Kennedy Jr’s purge of its advisory committee on immunisation practices.1 Fiona Havers cited loss of confidence in the scientific objectivity of vaccine policy.2
The committee’s purge and staff reductions have sparked widespread concern about the erosion of US immunisation efforts.3 Writing in JAMA, all 17 former members of the committee decried their abrupt dismissal and expressed concern about transparent, evidence based guidance for immunisation policies.4
Similarly, members of the CDC’s healthcare infection control practices advisory committee, also writing in JAMA, condemned the termination of their 34 year old panel,5 which provided infection prevention guidelines and informed regulations and clinical practice.
